Macy Grey defends name to revamp US flag: It is ‘complicated’

Final week, the star made headlines when she wrote an op-ed for MarketWatch through which she prompt that the American flag be redesigned, as the present design has turn out to be “tattered, dated, divisive, and incorrect,” alleging that it has “changed” the accomplice flag as a logo of racism and hate. 

Reactions to the “I Strive” singer’s suggestion have been blended, however definitely induced a stir on social media, and now, in an interview with TMZ, Grey has continued to defend her criticism and expanded on her name for a redesign.

Grey continued: “I believe that the messaging from the flag has now modified. Lots of people really feel very totally different about it.”

The singer mentioned that when she sees somebody holding an American flag, she thinks of it as “a weapon” and a “image of hate.”

“The flag’s been redesigned 26 instances, we have had 26 flags, so this would not be the primary flag change,” Grey defined. “The flag throughout the Civil Struggle was utterly totally different … we did not have 50 states and the flag has traditionally modified because the instances have modified.”

The star added that she’s “by no means seen the world flip” greater than it has during the last two years, which qualifies for a motive to vary up the flag’s look.

“What the flag represents at this level is complicated. I believe it is complicated to us, it is complicated to different nations,” she mentioned. “It is bizarre to honor it or to salute to it as a result of you do not know what it stands for anymore.”
